Enter to guess number of cars and benefit SECC
The Statewide Transportation Planning Division is sponsoring a contest to benefit SECC. Visit the Transportation Planning reception desk on the third floor to place your guess on how many miniature cars are in the jar. Entries, which are $1 per guess, will be accepted through Friday, Oct. 12. The first place winner receives a $20 gift certificate to Red Robin, and second and third prizes are $10 Red Robin gift certificates (all donated by Statewide Planning Section employees and Red Robin). Tickets, which are $5 each, can be purchased from Patti Dumond, (third floor, near Pillar D23), or in the Lobby Conference Room on Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., prior to the drawing. Want to know who makes the best chili in Design? How about some great dessert? Mark next Tuesday, Oct. 16, on your calendar, and come to the Lakeshore Learning Center. For a small fee ($3 for chili, $3 for dessert or $5 for both) you can enjoy AND judge the chilis and desserts. Pay your fees at the door from 11:30a.m.-1p.m. (or until the food is gone). All proceeds will go the SECC campaign (best chili and dessert winners to choose the charities). Stick around and enjoy the Olympic Tongue Twister Challenge. Tongue twister contest to raise funds for SECC on Tuesday The Statewide Transportation Planning Division and Transportation Toastmasters invite you to the first Olympic Tongue Twister Challenge for SECC. The contest will begin around noon next Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the Lakeshore Training Center, in conjunction with Design Division’s Chili/Dessert Cook-Off. Anyone can be a contestant (no professional tongue twisters, please). The entry fee is just $2 per try. An expert panel of judges will choose winners for many categories, and the overall winner will choose which charity will receive the money raised by the contest. Thanks to Tootsie Roll counters The Statewide and Urban Travel Analysis Section thanks all those who participated in the "Guess the Number” contest. $172 was raised to benefit SECC. The total number of Tootsie rolls in the jar was 1,232. The first-place winner, with a guess of 1,228 (winner was number closest to, but not over, the actual number), was Karry Lenon, who won a stay at the East Lansing Marriot (donated by the hotel). Karry designated the money raised to benefit the Capital Area Humane Society. Jim Fillwock took second place, with a guess of 1,234, winning lunch for two at the Capitol City Grill. Third place went to Michele Klein, who won the container of Tootsie Rolls, for her guess of 1,235.
