Agency Descriptions 

 

Alzheimer's Association - The Alzheimer’s Association provides the following services to persons with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, their families, and professional service providers: Helpline, support groups, counseling/ care consultation, respite scholarships, education and training, resource library, Safe Return, advocacy.                                         

Alger Marquette Community Action Board (AMCAB) - AMCAB is a multi-purpose human service organization for over 40 years. Senior Meals, Housing, Head Start and Emergency Services are major program areas. 

American Red Cross - The Central Upper Peninsula Red Cross is at its best when times are at their worst. From the fire that leaves on family without a home, to lifesaving first aid skills to working with our military and their families, when people rely on the Red Cross, the Red Cross is there.    

Bay Cliff Health Camp - A summer therapy camp for children with physical disabilities. Children receive therapy and participates in recreational and camping activities.  A one-week recreational camp for adults with disabilities is also provided.  

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mqt. Co - Provides professionally supported one to one matches for local children through our traditional One to One program, School Based Mentoring, Yellow Ribbon Kids for children with a deployed parent, Campus Kids at NMU, and Kappa Kids at KI Sawyer. 

Catholic Social Services of the UP (CSS) - Provides child welfare services (including pregnancy counseling, foster care, adoption), family services including individual, marriage, family and pre-marriage counseling and community consultation. 

Child and Family Services of the UP - Offers a wide variety of social services, ranging from prevention programs to therapeutic foster care and adoption, enhancing the lives of Upper Peninsula residents.  

Children’s Charter of the Courts - The primary emphasis is on educating communities, families, and the juvenile justice system on issues related to child abuse and neglect.  

Children's Leukemia Foundation of MI - Statewide agency that provides information, financial assistance and emotional support to adults and children affected by leukemia, lymphoma and other, related disorders.

Community Coordinated Child Care Association of the UP - Support and train child care providers, and to advocate for the highest quality of child care for parents, employers and the general public. 

Girl Scouts of Peninsula Waters, Inc. - Girl Scouts of Peninsula Waters is committed to helping all girls discover and develop talents, respond to community needs, and plan for a brighter future. 

Great Lakes Recovery Centers - Provides substance abuse counseling for adults and youth.  We are accredited by CARF and contract with 25+ state, federal and local agencies to deliver long-term residential and outpatient services.  

Greater Ishpeming Commission on Aging - Greater Ishpeming Commission on Aging provides services to the elderly in the city of Ishpeming and townships of Ishpeming, Ely, Tilden, Humboldt, Champion, Republic, Michigamme. 

Hemophilia Foundation of MI - Provides programs and services for individuals and families in the hereditary bleeding disorders community with the ultimate goal of finding a cure.                                          

Hiawathaland Council, Boy Scouts of America - Boy Scouts provides character and leadership development for boys age 6 to 18 and high school students.  Programs teach values, life skills and career preparation. 

Ishpeming Cancer Society Serving Marquette County - All-volunteer organization provides support and financial assistance to Marquette County cancer patients in need.  We also sponsor cancer early detection/screening programs for County residents.  

Janzen House - Provides adequate, safe housing and auxiliary services for homeless and low income residents and provides food, shelter and some clothing as needed.  Services will be provided to improve the quality of life for all residents. The services will help stabilize their life situations so they are able to make positive life decisions and to encourage most to eventually leave and maintain a more independent lifestyle. 

Lutheran Social Services (LSS) - Lutheran Social Services homeless programs provide basic needs, supports, and independent living training to homeless individuals, families, and runaway or at-risk youth. 

Marquette Alger Resolution Services - MARS provides mediation services and training to community residents. MARS has a 75% resolution rate, reduces legal costs and gives participants ownership in the process. 

Marquette Co. 4-H - Provides youth and adults with fun, educational opportunities, training and leadership experiences through 4-H clubs, in-school/after-school programs, and local, state, national and international programs. 

Marquette Co. Habitat for Humanity - Using donations of money, materials, and labor, Marquette Co. Habitat for Humanity and low income families build and rehabilitate homes which are purchased by the families via no-interest mortgages. 

Medical Care Access Coalition, Inc. (MCAC) - The Medical Care Access Coalition is a Marquette County, faith based non-profit that coordinates volunteered and donated medical services to low income, uninsured County residents. 

Negaunee Senior Center - The Negaunee Senior Center provides recreation, support groups, outreach, information and referral and in-home services to seniors of Negaunee and Richmond Townships and Negaunee. 

Pathways - Serves people with serious mental illnesses, developmental disabilities, and children with serious emotional disturbance. Also provides the community with 24 hour/7 day-a-week crisis support services.  

Propylon - Operates safe, affordable, barrier-free housing with special design features to accommodate wheelchair users.  Also provides limited social programming including activities such as: holiday parties, memorial services, spring and fall barbecues, wellness clinics, and student nurse placements. 

Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) The purpose of the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program is to enrich the lives of seniors by matching their interests with needs in the community.        

Salvation Army-Ishpeming  - A non-profit, non-discriminating, Christian organization servicing low-income families/individuals with emergency needs: food, shelter, utility disconnects.  Asset/Character building programs are offered weekly for youths and adults.  

Salvation Army-Marquette - Community Services provided include shelter services through the MI State Emergency Shelter Program, basic emergency services including utility, rent, limited security deposits, limited clothing and furniture, limited prescription and medical assistance, and transportation.  Additionally, the Salvation Army offers youth character building programs, pastoral counseling, worship services, and emergency disaster relief services. 

Teaching Family Homes of UP (TFH) - TFH provides a continuum of programs serving families and children through Home-Based Services, Counseling, Foster Care, Community–Based Treatment Homes, Day Treatment, Parent and School training. 

United Cerebral Palsy of MI (UCP) - The Assistive Technology Center brings solutions to Upper Peninsula residents of all ages and disabilities who could benefit from special equipment to remain in their homes, schools and occupations.  

UP Library for the Blind - The Library provides Talking Books, recorded magazines and large print books for people with impaired vision and physical disabilities. Playback equipment and books are sent FREE MATTER. 

UP EMS - UP EMS promotes development of emergency medical care throughout the Upper Peninsula through training, technical support and community assistance.  

Women's Center - The Women’s Center provides services to adult and child victims of domestic and sexual assault. Program services include providing safe shelter; individual and group counseling; legal, financial, and housing advocacy; information and referrals; and community presentations.    

YMCA - The YMCA is dedicated to building strong kids, families and communities through Christian principled programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
